Style: Antique Sewing Machines

Every year I take a road trip to Madison Indiana for the Chautauqua Festival of Art. We usually have time to make a few stops in town and brows through the wonderful shops. These sewing machines all pushed together with the afternoon sunlight shining in were a lovely setting. If you happen to be in the region this years Chautauqua will be on September 27-28. I highly recommend it!

Style: Crane Scissors

I snapped this shot while at my moms house, she was working on some embroidery and her tiny crane scissors were begging to be photographed. I didn't have my digital so I swiped her old 35mm Canon. I love that camera unfortunately it requires film. But, there is something to say for the art of and loss of film.

Home: Feeling Fall and a Watercolor

I don't know what it is, but I must be ready for fall....
For some reason I don't get very far into summer before I start craving fall. There is nothing like having the windows open and letting the crisp air blow in. The smell of the leaves and earth getting ready for winter. I crave sweaters, hot tea, warm socks, and the smells of pumpkin spice.

This is a little watercolor I did in an illustration style last winter. I ran across it in my photo files and it felt right today.

Garden: Wings

Is it me or does this painted lady moth have a beak? Yeah, that's what I thought. I've found that photographing butterflies and moths is pretty simple. At first they're a bit skittish, but soon they realize that you don't have a stash of pins in your pocket for a grade school science project. Once they calm down they are all to happy to pose for a portrait. This moth was a downright ham, but the Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail ( that's the yellow one...and yes I looked it up) had a severe case of OCD. It was busy chowing down and would not stop flapping it wings.

Nothing worse than a neurotic butterfly!

If you would like butterflies and moths to visit, plant lots of flowers, they love Zinas and Flox!
